Newspaper clipping about the extensive use of bluestone in Melbourne. In East Melbourne it is commonly seen in lanes, foundations, kerbstones and gutters as well as some fine early buildings such as St. Patrick's Cathedral. In Melbourne's earliest days bluestone was quarried in what is now the Fitzroy Gardens.

One of 16 views of Melbourne suburbs issued as a pictorial supplement with The Australasian newspaper of 6 April 1872. The pictures were drawn by Thomas Carrington (1842-1918) and engraved by Rudolph Jenny (1827-1905).

Eastern Hill from Parliament House

A colour tinted postcard with a wide white border.  It was printed in Saxony for the Victoria Stamp Market (V St M).  The message on the back of the card is dated 23 February 1910.  This is probably about the time the card was printed. 

The photo was taken from the roof of Parliament House and shows a view of Eastern Hill looking towards Fittzroy.
