Report of the sale of property at 124 Jolimont Road, Jolimont, known as Dyason House, headquarters of the Australian Institute of International Affairs.  Sale price was $5.7m.  The property is a few doors from Eblana, 140 Jolimont Road, which also recently sold for $6.45m.

East Melbourne, Hoddle Street 1157

Description: 

This is an early two storey brick and render shop with a dwelling to the upper floor. The upper floor windows have tuckpointed segmental arches and double hung sashes. The original structure probably had a single storey verandah. [City of Melbourne i-Heritage database]

History: 

No 1157 Hoddle Street was built for Thomas Davis, or Davies, in 1872 by Trinnick & Timmins of 48 Peel Street, Hotham (North Melbourne).  Sharing the home with Thomas was his mother, Hannah, and his sister, Emma.

East Melbourne, Hotham Street 072, 074, 076, Queen Bess Row

Description: 

Three four storey houses of red brick with sandstone dressings built in the Queen Anne Revival style. Elaborate facade details (for further, see Australian Heritage Place Inventory, website below).

History: 

The land on which Queen Bess Row was built was bought in the original land sales of 1853 by WJT Clarke. In 1895 his son, Joseph Clarke (brother of Sir William Clarke, bart. of Cliveden), is listed as the owner. He died the same year and the property was held by the Clarke Trustees.

Jolimont Street planned office building 'flawed'

Newspaper clipping reporting on the proposed re-development of 86-88 Jolimont Street.  Initial plans for the new office building were rejected by Council.  Report gives a detailed background to the story. 
The developer is named as Geoff Harris, philanthropist and Flight Centre co-founder.  Previous owner of the site was Cricket Victoria.

Brochure advertising Magnolia Court as boutique hotel, c.2000. The property has a long history as a guesthouse/private hotel and is noted as a place where visiting stage performers would stay.  Since then it has become run down.  A planning permit for an upgrade has been granted, however work has not started and the property is on the market.
