East Melbourne, Albert Street 132, 134

Description: 

A rather severe pair of dwellings with simple details. The two storey verandah is virtually completely altered. The six pane sashes to the rear would suggest an early date. [City of Melbourne i-Heritage database]

History: 

These two houses were built by John O’Brien for William Lumsden and Eliza, his wife, in 1866. According to his short obituary in the Argus in 1905:

East Melbourne, Grey Street 069, 071

Description: 

Pair of two storey, single fronted brick houses. They no longer match due to alterations

History: 

Joseph Broadbent, clerk of works, owned the two houses until his death in 1879. During this time he made considerable alterations to both of them. In 1861 Number 69 appeared as a four roomed house, the following year it increased to five rooms and increased again in 1874 to nine rooms. In the same year Number 71 had one room added to become six rooms.

East Melbourne, Hotham Street 152 - Burchett

1859. MCC BR: Joseph Broadbent and Lumsden to build for Henry Apperley a 2-storey, 3-room house. Henry Apperley was a sculptor. Broadbent and Lumsden built many houses in East Melbourne, lived in Grey Street.
1861. Henry Apperley - owner/occupier.
