On the 2 March 1968 a grass fire broke out in Alphington, near Melbourne.  Two fireman, Sub-Station Officer Gordon Bruce Adams, and Senior Fireman Eric Jamieson, suffered severe burns.  Both later died in hospital.  Jamieson on 3 March and Adams on 23 March.

The funeral for Adams was held on 27 March with full fire brigade honors. The photos show the procession leaving the Eastern Hill Fire Station and moving down Victoria Parade.

Both firemen are remembered with name plaques at the Victorian Emergency Services Memorial in the Treasury Gardens, East Melbourne.
