Description: 

Rate books describe it as a brick house of twelve rooms

History: 

This house was designed by Crouch and Wilson for Bernard Marks. Thomas Newton of Charnwood Crescent, St Kilda was the builder. It was completed in 1881. In 1901 Bernard Marks and his family travelled to England and rented the house out. They never returned to the house, moving instead to St Kilda.

1883. D. Benjamin - owner. W.H.F. Mitchell - occupier.
1882-84. Occupied by Sir William Harcourt? Mitchell. Pres. of the Legislative Council 1870, till his death in 1884.
1884-89c. Name mentioned: William Thomas Jones.

1886. Benjamin: owner. M. Susman: occupier.
1979. Owned by Mr. W.D. Hazelton for about 60 years, who has lived next door at 38 Hotham St.

Description: 

Symmetrical single storeyed, double fronted house, with a central tower and return verandahs each side.

History: 

David Benjamin, estate agent and brother of Sir Benjamin Benjamin, never lived in the house, it was an investment property from day one.

1868. B.J. O'Donovan to build 2 houses for and under Joseph Wilmoth.

There may have been two No.12's originally. No.12a first appears in 1869 - may have been built on Anderson's stable site. (Refer 1894 MMBW plan). No.12a became No.60, No.14 to No.62 and No.16 to No.66? (should probably be No.64).
1852. Lot 15, Section 1 purchased by Solomon Benjamin.
1853. MCC BR: Wm. Anderson - builder, for self two houses and stables. (1854c-1893c).

Description: 

A two storey, verandahed and parapeted mansion symmetrically composed around an imposing side lighted doorway.

History: 

This house was designed by Crouch and Wilson and built by John O’Dea for Lawrence Benjamin, a clothier with premises in the ‘Beehive’ building at the corner of Bourke and Elizabeth Streets, opposite the General Post Office. He notified the Council of his intention to build on 6 April 1881 but on 4 February 1882 the house was advertised for sale on account of the owner going overseas.
