Bishopscourt book published
Newspaper articles about the publication of a book on the history of Bishopscourt, titled "Bishopscourt Melbourne - Official Residence and Family Home" by Elizabeth Rushen. The book was commissioned by Mrs Joy Freier, wife of Archbishop Philip Freier, who wanted it to be a social rather than a church history. The book was launched on 7 October 2013 by Professor Geoffrey Blainey.

Blockbuster
Blockbuster is a biograhy of Fergus Hume but more it is the story of his famous book, The Mystery of a Hansom Cab, published in 1886. It was one of the earliest dectective stories in the English language, and set in Melbourne, with many scenes taking place in East Melbourne.

DAVITT, Ellen
Ellen Davitt is best remembered as a pioneer educationalist in her role as the first superintendent of the Model School, East Melbourne, which once stood on the island site now occupied by the Royal College of Surgeons. She and her husband, Arthur, who held the senior position of principal, resided and worked at the school from its foundation in 1854 until 1859.

Dispatches from Gallipoli - Phillip Schuler, war correspondent
Newspaper clipping about the life and work of Phillip Schuler, war correspondent for The Age during the Gallipoli campaign, and soldier on the Western Front, where he lost his life. Phillip Schuler was born at Brentani Terrace, 159-161 Grey Street, East Melbourne and lived as a small child at 62 Jolimont Street, Jolimont before moving with his family to their permanent home in Hawthorn.

A rather severe pair of dwellings with simple details. The two storey verandah is virtually completely altered. The six pane sashes to the rear would suggest an early date. [City of Melbourne i-Heritage database]
These two houses were built by John O’Brien for William Lumsden and Eliza, his wife, in 1866. According to his short obituary in the Argus in 1905:

A row of six terrace houses. The central four each have a triple arched verandah and two windows above, while the two end houses have an arched porch over the front door and one window downstairs, and two windows above.
J Knipe notified the City Council of his intention to build a row of six 8 roomed houses in Victoria Parade on 1 December 1876. The builder was to be James Carlton. By June 1877 they were advertised to let for £750 each.
