1870
Builder:
G. Griffiths, 8 O'Connell Street, Hotham
First owner:
Thomas Parslow
Description:

Single story, double fronted house

History:

The house was built in 1870 by G. Griffiths for Thomas Parslow as a four room cottage. Parslow sold it four years later when he returned to England. It was bought by John Ryan, a grazier with a property on the Darling River called Walloo Station. He called the cottage Walloo. He died in 1876 leaving his widow, Mary Teresa Ryan, as owner and occupant. On her death in 1889 her son, Joseph, also a grazier, took up residence. He made additions to the house sometime between then and his own death in 1899 and by 1900 it was described as having ten rooms. On his death Annie, his wife became the owner but did not live there. Among her tenants were Lawrence Egan in 1910 and William Carne in 1920. Annie sold the house about this time and the 1921 rate books list William Hamill as owner and occupier and he remains so until his death in 1971. His widow, Emma, continued to live there for a short time.

Owners and occupiers:

1870-1874: Thomas Parslow
