1907 R S Phillips to build a brick residence for James Griffiths. Architect - Ward and Carleton.
1907 - 1930 occupied by Missionary Training House and 1931 became Church of England Deaconess House.
Originally the site was occupied by shops.

Large two-storey house, built of red brick, with red tiled roof; a corner turret; balconies. [For detailed description see City of Melbourne i-Heritage database]
St. Hilda's was built in 1907 by R S Phillips for James Griffiths. The architects were Ward and Carleton. Griffiths had migrated to Australia in 1873 and founded the successful tea business of the same name. Both Griffiths and his wife were committed to Christian missionary work and in 1902 Mrs Griffiths was appointed President of the Women's Missionary Council.

East Melbourne, Victoria Parade 488
Single story, double fronted house
The house was built in 1870 by G. Griffiths for Thomas Parslow as a four room cottage. Parslow sold it four years later when he returned to England. It was bought by John Ryan, a grazier with a property on the Darling River called Walloo Station. He called the cottage Walloo. He died in 1876 leaving his widow, Mary Teresa Ryan, as owner and occupant.
Girls' Training Home for Domestic Service
Brochure, not dated but c.1910. The institute was founded in 1883 and effectively closed in 1939. The brochure is yellowed with age and moth or insect eaten. It is about 25cm wide by 20cm high. The middle page is actually 50cm wide but is folded in to the centre on both sides to match the front and back pages.

Jolimont, Agnes Street 033, Marlion House
This 2 storey tuck pointed red brick warehouse with render bands is given a residential character by the use of suitable scale double hung windows at ground and first floors, and the division of the facade into small bays. The ground floor has been "rusticated" by recessing every fourth brick course [i-Heritage]
No building application seems to exist for the original erection of the property, but in January 1927 The Herald & Weekly Times applied to convert the existing stables on the site to motor garages.

Memoir of living in Melbourne in the 20th century. The author, Bruce McBrien, grew up in a house in Spring Street, Melbourne, and spent much of his social life in East Melbourne, and went to school at Yarra Park State School. Has extensive and detailed memories of a child's life in East Melbourne. Includes photos. No index.
