Date built:
1871
Builder:
Abraham Priest
First owner:
Thomas Watkins
Description:

A pair of single storey terrace houses, 181 has added dormer window.

History:

183 Simpson Street This is one of a pair, 181 Simpson Street being identical. They were built about 1881, possibly earlier. The large attic is a feature which is not often seen. The passage is also somewhat wider than is usually found in a single storey terrace house. The owner in 1881 was John Snow. From 1888-1899 it was owned by William Sweet. We bought the house in 1964 when it was in a state of dis-repair. At that stage we added the bathroom, but made no other structural alterations. Two years ago we changed the former large kitchen into the present living/dining room and a small room was made into a modern kitchen. The original front verandah was removed to allow more light into the house, and french windows installed in the front room for the same reason.
