Nicholls

East Melbourne, Simpson Street 104

History: 

104 Simpson Street stands on part of Allotments E and F of Section 22.  This land was in turn part of a larger block, originally allotments 14-17 of Section 22, which was granted to the Baptist Church.  The land was later resumed and resubdivided creating Allotments A-F and what is now Ola Cohn Place.

Jolimont, Jolimont Terrace 012

Description: 

Two storey single fronted house, built of blue stone with cream brick and terracotta dressings.

History: 

Built in 1868 by Thomas Newton for Alexander Leslie to the design of architects Crouch and Wilson. The verandah and balcony are not original and the house probably had a single storey verandah originally. The two storey rear service wing was added circa 1920.

The school on the corner of Wellington Parade and Punt Road, East Melbourne, has been dicontinued and converted to apartments.

The second is a detail of the above showing Glenice Hopgood.

The third is the medal awarded to Glenice Hopgood as dux of the class and presented by Mrs L Epstein.
