1878. MCC Building Advice: David Blair - owner and builder - to build 2-storey house on corner George Street. Originally named by Blair 'Kilburn'. David Blair was sawmiller of Echuca and owned the paddle steamer 'Adelaide'. Sold in 1881 to Murray River Sawmills. Used in Red Gum Trade, now classified by National Trust and preserved at Echuca. Was built in Echuca 1866.

East Melbourne, Simpson Street 029, Cliveden Hill

Description: 

Grand two storey residence with collonades to ground and first floors. Fine balustraded parapet with central pediment and cartouche. Fine incised render detailing and string courses at springing of window arches. Etched glass to verandah return on both floors. High cast iron palisade fence on bluestone plinth.

History: 

The house was built for David Blair, a timber merchant. He frequently visited Borneo and Sumatra and was instrumental in importing many exotic timbers.

Corner Simpson Street. Also part of Nos.8-10 Simpson Street. Note: Index card and photo marked incorrectly as Nos.10-12. Nos.10-12 are the adjoining pair of terraces. See separate entry.
1901. MCC Building Advice: James Seccull, builder, for Dr. Peacock. 3 houses. Architects: Sydney Smith and Ogg of 101 Queen Street.
1903-1919. Name mentioned for No.62: Dr. Samuel Peacock.
