Map shows Eastern Hill marked with churches and public buildings. The map shows some buildings which have been all but forgotten such as the Police Barracks, the Reservoir and Apsley Place.

Burnell

Watercolour painting by William Tibbits  of Burnell, the house which originally stood at 109 Albert Street, East Melbourne, now part of the Epworth Freemasons' Hospital site.  Burnell was built for John Speechly Gotch, a partner in the firm of Gordon and Gotch, newsagents.

East Melbourne, Fitzroy Gardens old kiosk

Photo shows the old kiosk in the Fitzroy Gardens in the 1950s.  Originally built in 1908 with an octagonal bandstand at the corner which has been built in.  At the entrance is a weighing machine which a customer could use by inserting a penny in the slot provided.

Description: 

A two storey structure of rustic appearance with half timbered gables and deep verandahs. Its focal point was the octagonal bandstand at the corner of the building.

It's goodbye to Cliveden

Newspaper clipping about the sale and imminent demolition of Cliveden Mansions to make way for what is described as a multi-storey motel.  This became the Hilton on the Park Hotel, and is now the Pullman Hotel.

Lost Melbourne

Newspaper clipping publicises a new book 'Remembering Melbourne 1850-1960' edited by Richard Broome and published by the Royal Historical Society of Victoria. It has over 700 photos of Melbourne's lost or changed buildings. The first half of the book covers CBD buildings and was compiled by the RHSV.
