WINDSOR, Michael George

Biographical notes: 

Michael George Windsor was born in 1893 in Caulfield.  He was the son of Arthur Windsor, who, at the time of Michael’s enlistment on 17 August 1914, was living at 272 High Street, St. Kilda.  Michael gave his occupation as labourer and his next of kin as Miss Costain, Wellington Street, Jolimont.  Minnie Costain was Michael's aunt.

WINTERBOTTOM, Bertie Dallas

Bertie Dallas Winterbottom was the son of William Henry Winterbottom and Jean Mathieson Winterbottom.  He was born 1893 at Koondrook in Victoria, between Swan Hill and Echuca.  His father had been a selector in the area.

Enlisted  on 3 December 1917 at Melbourne.   Prior to his enlistment he wrote to The Manager, Department of Defence, Woollen Cloth Factory, Geelong to apply for leave of absence.  On enlistment gave his occupation as Defence Department employee (civil servant).  His next of kin was his wife, Mabel, of Shenstone, Jolimont Street, Jolimont.  This address wa

WOOD, Clifton Loris

Biographical notes: 

Clifton Loris (Tip) Wood, soldier, was born 5 June 1883 at Carlton, son of Frederick (Fred) Wood and Mary Peddie nee Bain.  He married in Albany, W.A., Beatrice Louisa Joyce, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Joyce of Thursday Island, Queensland, on 6 December 1912.  He had been posted to Thursday Island and then to Albany during the course of his military career.

Enlisted at Melbourne on 30 September 1915. At enlistment was 39 years 6 mnths.  5ft 11; Complexion - fresh; eyes - blue; hair - dark brown.  Next of kin was his sister:  Mary Leah Wood, Bella Vista, Woonona, NSW. Single.    Embarked:  2 October 1916 per Nestor.  Proceeded to France 10 February 1917.

WOOD, John Henry

Biographical notes: 

John Henry Wood was the son of Richard and Elizabeth Wood and his age would indicate that he was the twin brother of Thomas Jacob [see also] but he states that he was born c.1895 at Footscray, while Thomas was born in Eltham.  Presumably one of them, most likely John Henry, has put his age up in order to enlist.

Thomas Jacob Wood was the son of Richard and Elizabeth Wood and his age would indicate that he was the twin brother of John Henry [see also] but he states that he was born c.1895 in Eltham, while John Henry was born in Footscray.  When he enlisted on 23 February 1916 he gave his occupation as engineer and stated that he had done his apprenticeship with Johnston & Sons, engineers

Born Carlton, Vic.  Enlisted at Melbourne on 18 Aug 1915, aged 32.  He had previously served for four years with the West Australian Infantry Regiment, D Company.  He was a salesman with Craig Williamson Pty.
