A colour tinted postcard with a wide white border. It was printed in Saxony for the Victoria Stamp Market (V St M). The message on the back of the card is dated 23 February 1910. This is probably about the time the card was printed.
The photo was taken from the roof of Parliament House and shows a view of Eastern Hill looking towards Fittzroy.
St Patrick's Cathedral is the dominant feature of the scene. To the left of the cathedral is St Peter's Eastern Hill. At the very left of the photo is St Peter's School, and between it and the church is the vicarage.
Immediately in front of the vicarage is the pavilion in the gardens of Parliament House. It was used in its early days as a place for parliamentarians to change into their bowling clothes in preparation for a game on the adjacent bowling green. The bowling green is not visible but was behind the clump of trees to the right of the pavilion and across the path.
Between St Peter's and St Patrick's and in the middle distance is the New Church Temple. This was the first church, of only two, built by the Swedenborgians in 1872-73. It is in Albert Street on the corner of Morrison Place.
Message on the back of the postcard reads:-
Dear Flossie
Received your Postcard, and was so pleased to hear from you. I could not write you before. You did not give me your ? and it is not the same as it used to be you know I am not sure whether this is right or not I hope it is. Thanks so much for your kind invitation, I shall be very pleased to come and see you soon. Your loving F Florrie
