Jolimont, Jolimont Road 112, Grassmere

Description: 

A double fronted single storey house with a verandah at the front and built of dark brown brick with cream brick trim.

History: 

Alexander Britton, married and with his first child on the way, made plans to build a house. On 23 December 1869 builders, Little & Boyne, lodged notice with the Melbourne City Council that they would build a house in Jolimont Road, next to Morton’s.

Note: No.124-6 is the right hand house shown in the photo.

Prosecution of Dr Samuel Peacock, Eastbourne House 1911

An article in the Melbourne Truth newspaper dated 24 April 1976 describing the events of 1911 when Dr Samuel Peacock was prosecuted for the murder of Mary Margaret Davies. Her remains were never found but it appears that she died following an abortion at Dr Peacock's premises in Eastbourne House on the corner of Wellington Parade and Simpson Street.

It contains some extracts from the 1979 reunion booklet; reprints of previously published material; and some original stories and memoirs. The pieces cover personalities, church and parish life and go back to the 1930s. Includes some photos.
