Belmont

East Melbourne, Clarendon Street 162, Belmont

Description: 

Large three-storey house built to the street.

History: 

Belmont was built in 1873 for William Taylor, auctioneer, who lived there for thirty years. He died in 1903 leaving the house to his wife until her death. In later years it became an annexe to the Freemasons' Hospital, but was eventually demolished to create parking space.

East Melbourne, Simpson Street 104

History: 

104 Simpson Street stands on part of Allotments E and F of Section 22.  This land was in turn part of a larger block, originally allotments 14-17 of Section 22, which was granted to the Baptist Church.  The land was later resumed and resubdivided creating Allotments A-F and what is now Ola Cohn Place.

On the Street Where we Live. Glimpses from the past. Exhibition 2013

A collection of large format photos used for EMHS Open House exhibition held at The Menzies Foundation, Clarendon Terrace during Open House weekend, July 2013.

Each photo is in a protective sleeve with supporting photos included. Housed together in a Zetta Florence cardboard carry bag.

Winston Burchett's Scrapbook

A scrapbook of cuttings collected by Winston Burchett.  Most cuttings relate to reviews of his books, East Melbourne Walkabout and East Melbourne 1837-1977.  A smaller number of cuttings cover property news in East Melbourne, including sales and planning controversies
