1863 a small cottage was on the site and was occupied by Bates Cocoa Works.
Later extended to a factory having a 66ft. frontage to Albert Street and employing 50-60 hands milling Maizena, Mustard, Cocoa, and Dandelion Cocoa.
Demolished in 1892/3 and absorbed into the Brewery.
