A black and white postcard. No. 29 of the Kookaburra Series.

The central focus of the image is the Gordon Statue which was erected by the people of Melbourne in 1887 to honour the memory of Charles George Gordon, Major-General Royal Engineers who fell at Khartoum, January 26 1885.

To the left is the edge of Parliament House, the watch-tower of the Eastern Hill Fire Station, and the shorter tower of St Peter's Church. To the right, in the distance, is St Patrick's Cathedral yet to have its spires constructed. 

Further forward is the Geological Museum fronting Macarthur Street. It was built in 1909 and demolished in 1964 to make way for the existing State Government Offices (including State Theatrette).

To the very right of the image is a cable tram travelling north towards the museum. Trams travelling along this route were converted to electricity in 1929.

The reverse side of the postcard displays a message from Uncle August of Scott's Creek to his niece, Vida Leffler of Chewton. It is dated 2/5/15. Uncle August can be identified as August Leffler, storeman of Scott's Creek.
