                    Digital archive        A homeless woman who went by the name of Painter was amongst a number of homeless people accommodated at Birches Apartments in Simpson Street, East Melbourne, during the Covid lockdowns in 2020-21. The owner of the apartments recognised her talent as an artist and helped her develop her skills by buying her the tools and equipment she needed. At the end of the lockdown period it had been the intention of the government to find permanent accommodation for the homeless. This article highlights the failure of the government to come good on this promise.
