In 1915 the East Melbourne Historical Society, led by Janet Scarfe, researched the lives and work of nurses who served in WW1 and who had a connection with East Melbourne and Jolimont. Their stories and accompanying images were published on our website and are searchable under their individual names. In more abbreviated form their stories were used as the basis of an exhibition held at the East Melbourne Library under the title 'Gone to War as Sister'.  This booklet was published as an accompaniment to that exhibition. The stories are further abbreviated but give an interesting overview of the differing lives of these woman, both before and after the war.

Researched, written and curated by Janet Scarfe
