Catalogue of an exhibition of early Melbourne paintings on loan from various institutions but mainly from the Roy Morgan Research Centre Collection.The exhibiton was held first at Morgans 401, 401 Collins Street, Melbourne and later at Government House.

All works are illustrated in colour and illustrate Melbourne's earliest days from 1840 to 1906. 

Three appendices are included:

1. Rare set of 12 plates of early Melbourne 1841-1845 by Henry Gilbert Jones. This gives details of the etchings which are part of the exhibition.

2.Victoria Day Council Separation Tree Ceremony Oration given by Gary Morgan November 14 2009, with photos.

3.Charles La Trobe, Victoria's Separation Gold Tax - 'turning a wild colonial country into a civilised one'. An Australia Day Counil (Victoria) Inc. Oration by Gary Morgan May 9 2011.
