A study by University of Melbourne architecture students under the supervision of Jan Gehl, School of Architecture, Royal Academy, Copenhagen in 1976. It compares and analyses soft and hard interfaces between public and private space across a variety of Melbourne's suburbs, and the importance these have on social interaction. East Melbourne is one of the suburbs studied, and in particular the block of Gipps Street between Powlett and Simpson Streets (pp. 72-73). It includes photos and diagrams.
