Biographical notes: 

Born East Melbourne, enlisted 24 January 1916 at Melbourne, embarked 20 May 1916, disembarked at Plymouth 18 July 1916, died of disease (scarlet fever) at Isolation Hospital, Salisbury, England 28 December 1916, his 19th birthday.  Buried Stratford sub Castle Churchyard near Salisbury.  His name is on the honour board of the Riddell district in the local Mechanics' Hall, unveiled 8 April 1925.

On enlistment he gave his age as 18 years, 1 month, and his occupation as labourer. He had military experience as a senior cadet.  He was 5ft 5.25 ins. with fair hair and complexion, and blue eyes.

Son of James Francis and Margaret (nee Hill) Crow of Torwood/Forwood, Riddell, Victoria

In 1863 Thomas Murray and Peter Hill had formed a partnership as Murray & Hill, building contractors and joiners, with premises in Victoria Parade, East Melbourne.  In the early 1880s the partners retired and the business was continued by Thomas Murray's nephew, John Murray, and an employee of the firm, James Francis Crow, and was then known as Murray & Crow.  The business continued until 1911, and in the years of its existence built many houses in East Melbourne.  Crow, a resident of Gisborne, married Peter Hill's daughter in 1890 at the Hills' home, 92 Vale Street, East Melbourne.
